The President's Checks & Balances, Drinks Anyone?

Well, we got a presidential election coming up in a few months, kinda important, the leader of the free world and all. Some folks say that the president can just swipe his pen and do pert near anything he wants. Shucks, this is the land of Liberty, the Home of the Brave! So I did a bit of research and I'm here to tell ya some good news!!

Looks like we're gonna elect either Mr. Obama or Mr. McCain near Thanksgiving this year. Sure enough he's going to be called the most powerful man in the world.

But this is America and we have a “Checks and Balances” system. If we didn't then a runaway president could act like those tin-horn dictators in the Taliban and arrest you without cause just because they said you looked funny.

Don't worry, this is the land of Liberty. Other countries will listen in on your phone to see what you're doing. Oh, and I found out something else. Those dictators seize all your property when they arrest you and IF they ever let you go, over 80% of the property is never returned! Wow, no wonder they are rich! Ah, everybody needs a yacht payment.

Thank Heavens for Checks & Balances. The other folks can throw ya in jail for months, years without a lawyer, without a trial! Maybe even haul you off to a secret tropical island jail! Not here, not in the land of milk and honey! No sirree Bob!

We have the greatest Constitution in the world and our president occasionally swears by it! We have the freedom to say what we think, to print our opinions and no J. Edgar Electrolux is gonna put us in his little black book and assign a bunch of stoolies dressed up in dark blue suits with identical sunglasses, curly plastic things up their necks, ...to follow us around! Imagine, every 15 seconds the hammerheads all have the habit of whispering into their hand! Juvenile.

We have freedom to go where we want and say what we please because of “Checks and Balances.” See, what happens is that the President does what he wants to do, called an “Executive Order.”

Those things cost money, so the Secretary of the Treasury writes the “Checks.” But since the Secretary is always busy signing things he or she never tends to the books. Our founding fathers knew this problem and anticipated it.

That's where the Legislators come in. Since the President makes all of the laws, they fill in the spaces by making sure the Check that the President wrote, “Balances.”

No one gets egg on his or her face and the government of the people, by the people, and for the people is well greased and moves effortlessly guaranteeing our freedom all because of our system of “Checks and Balances.”

Now that's the way I see it!

The Entrepreneur Connection

Thank Heavens for George Bush & Chairman Mao!

Thank Heavens for George Bush! With elections coming up, neither Republicans nor Democrats want to appear soft on terrorism, genocide, nuclear detonation in urban areas, nor overdue parking tickets. Both parties agreed to take care of you, me and Grandma Jones and make sure that all the telecommunication companies are free to work with Georgie Wuh and continue to listen in on anything they want at anytime. Finally Obama had the back bone to cave in and side with Johnny boy and the Bush. Obama didn't want to appear soft on terrorism either, so what's a few liberties when votes are at stake? And it's about time.
At least we don't have wimpy politicians like David Davis in the UK who stood on the steps of the Palace of Westminster to announce his resignation from the House of Commons! It seems he was outraged that the House would vote to detain suspected terrorists for 42 days without charge. He accused the government of presiding over "slow strangulation of freedoms," and the "ceaseless encroachment of the state," into their daily lives. Spineless!

Somebody has to listen in on every conversation on the phone. After all, these terrorists are on every corner. Britain and Cousin George have made it a new law to glorify terrorism...wow! I love it!

They've made it law to incite religious hatred. That is the way to get rid of hatred, hate it, stomp it, jail it! Kill the bastards! Oh, I am so proud of the stodgy Brits with their new law of 10 years now, the "Anti-Social Behaviour Order."

It is time we woke up, America! We are the land of freedom and we cannot have freedom unless we can account for every single person on our soil, where they are, what they are doing and making sure they are doing the right thing and in the right way! Every person needs to know the REAL history of America and its leaders. Each of us needs to know what the other is doing in order to keep each other on the right track. It is time we realized that security is everything! That's the kind of president we need, one who's not afraid to guarantee our safety at all costs.

We need to learn from history. My parents went to China many years ago for a two week excursion. They were amazed to find that if you left your camera on the park bench no one stole it! I remember reading at that time a big editorial in one of the leading religious magazines praising China's people for their honesty and telling us how we should be more like them.

In those days China had no cameras to watch its citizens, no biometric scanners or centralized databases, yet they were the most respectful, honest people on this earth! Much like President Bush now, we have Chairman Mao to thank then, for all that wonderful change in the people.

Chairman Mao's slogan was, "Serve the People," and it rang out in all humility wherever he was, from the concubines that surrounded him to the litters that carried him by the peasants. All Chairman Mao had to do was simply kill 70 million people to get that degree of honesty, a small price to pay for security. My parents got their camera back.

So, all you wonderful Statespeople folks in that idyllic Washington, D.C., my hat is off to your courage, your clear thinking and your vision of the future of our country. After all, what's a little change here, a law there? Congratulations in being arm in arm with Chairman Mao!

We are a nation of laws, of security, a nation of honesty! Let's see, 300 Million people, less 70 Million, that's about, roughly, nearly 230 million people...OK, that is an acceptable number. It's just cleanup, collateral damage. Oh, you divine thinkers, so glad you're in charge!

OK, So I'm a @%#..! Misfit!

Rebellious Entrepreneur? That's redundant! An Entrepreneur that questions authority? I hope so!!

Have you ever stopped to think about what it takes to make a change? It takes a rebel to make a change, someone who challenges the status quo, who says she doesn't agree or he thinks there is another way.

How many of us have seen these board members or other corporate wannabes that are yes men? Their sole purpose in life is to validate the definition of matter: they occupy space and have weight. If you agree with me every time then one of us is unnecessary!

An Entrepreneur is a rebel, pure and simple. He is one who may be afraid but leads the pack anyway. He is not afraid to make a difference; not afraid to question authority; not afraid to question the way things are.

Change is traumatic in human beings, but the last time I checked that is mostly whom we deal with! Massive trauma is the staple in an Entrepreneur's diet, and that diet has not been tasted for poison before dinner!

Every time an Entrepreneur starts a new venture he has about one (1) in twenty (20) chances of succeeding, but that is if he got venture capital! He has about one (1) in three (3,000,000) Million chances of getting his venture to the public market successfully!

But one (1) thing is for sure: if you don't try you are guaranteed to be a failure! Are those twenty (20) or one of those three (3,000,000) million failures? Heaven Forbid! Each one of those were champions in his or her own right!

Each one had the guts to go for it, to go out there and challenge the market, to be a Steve Jobs, a Sam Walton or a Bill Gates. Each one had the guts to be themselves and see something differently.

So challenge the assumption, question the rule, demand to understand why, and boldly say Why Not?
Embrace the trauma. Embrace the change. Be a passionate non-conformist! Be proud that you are an Entrepreneur for as such you are the cornerstone of freedom.

I'll Take Liberty, Neat, Two Olives, Shaken, Not Stirred

Where are Richard Branson, Donald Trump, Michael Dell and Steve Forbes? WHERE IS THE ENTREPRENEUR NOW THAT WE NEED HIM??? OK, maybe I had better step up to my own plate.


I can blame no one but myself! How can I go to city hall and sing 'rousing' songs with veterans with stirring words of liberty from Jefferson, Franklin and other spine tingling founders, and praise the beauties of the liberties that I have just lost?


It matters not, be Democrat or Republican, be whatever title you choose. America as the shining beacon of 'Freedom' has shorted out to a low wattage bulb by the self-aggrandizing myopics we call 'leaders.'


The French people gave us the Statue of Liberty. …'Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses yearning to be free',... Emma Lazarus wrote!


The people of France, not the French government, gave us that and it was not called the 'Statue to The Superpower,' or Hail World Policeman, and not turned IN towards the continent…American citizens donated money to build the base and place that magnificent statute on Bedloe’s Island in the New York Harbor. AND it faces OUT with outstretched torch of liberty to all the rest of the world.


Viktor Frankl thought we should build a corresponding Statue of Responsibility, on the West Coast. Well said, Viktor! Dr. Frankl had the spirit of the Entrepreneur.


America is now #35 down the list of 'most free' in terms of personal freedom, personal liberty in the top 200 nations of the world. It is a disgrace to the founding fathers, to the Statue of Liberty and to me.


Vigilance and responsibility is a way of life and the transition of government appears to take place rapidly, with the coup d'etat. However in our world, liberties are not lost overnight, even with the signing of the Patriot Act. They are lost one day at a time, once stroke of a pen at a time, one more time we each do not raise a voice.


Even in 1960, 82% of all high school students in the United States said they desired security more than liberty! Armed with THAT knowledge I don't blame the Entrepreneur/Legislator/Opportunist for turning up the heat on us frogs, passing a law or two, a pork belly or four and throwing a few Shekels his own way.


But, when it comes right down to it, none of us say NO! The water keeps getting hotter, the platitudes keep coming. Terrorism keeps being sold and we buy it...like baby birds with mouths wide open waiting for the next morsel of food to drop! ...and fear rises…AND I am the only one that can do anything about it.


That means that only the individual with individual action, personal commitment, you, me, each of us can make a difference, first of all by facing the realities of what Benjamin Franklin warned us of. ...Sacrificing liberty for security, and you will have neither!... By reversing the 82% high school attitude from 1960...


I do not concentrate on the liberties I have lost, but am grateful for the liberties I have and will have. I do not concentrate on negative leaders, I concentrate on personal responsibility. I do not set myself up to be better than anyone else on this earth…Heaven forbid!


I am an Entrepreneur. I just personally want to do better each day, to concentrate on creating the vision I have in my mind, the one I think the Founding Fathers had and I don’t want to watch TV to get it.


I want to give individual action a try. I want to do random acts of kindness…today. It starts…and ends…with me. After all, “Society” is made up of a whole bunch of “individuals”... a whole bunch of me's.


Famous Entrepreneurs and Freedom

I've been a bit fired up about the spirit of Entrepreneurs and Independence Day of late. In 1773 the young colonies were fed up with paying the tax on tea to King George without having any representation in parliament. Even more infuriating was the con job, (called spin today), coming out of London. The Brits assumed tea to be indispensable to the budding Americans and allowed it to only be shipped to Boston harbor where the tax was to be paid before it could be unloaded.

The bureaucrats of stogy old Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing St. did not realize that nearly all of the colonists were Entrepreneurs...that is why they went to America in the first place! Yes, the colonists loved tea, craved it, but it is just a bloody drink! 7,000 colonists murmured, fists were occasionally seen gesturing in the air and the hot steam of their breath bellowed ominously on that cold day in December, 1773 around the harbors of Boston. The mob could turn deadly at any second.

British war ships anchored firmly in the harbor and prepared for the worst. It was as though the entire area were a huge powder keg about to explode with the least encouragement. Thankfully night came; the crowd dispersed, except for 200 patriots who painted themselves with coal dust and dressed as Indians. Armed with tomahawks and determination, they divided into three groups and descended upon the three ships.

Confidence and determination, (plus a tomahawk!) can do amazing things! No one stopped them as they hacked into each box of tea and then threw the broken chests overboard. The armed British ships did not even resist.

They could have simply stolen the tea and avoided the tax, but that was not the message! They wanted the tea but not with the price attached. They wanted The Prime Minister, Lord North and King George to get the message loud and clear! You can take your tea and shove it!

Morning found a lot of the chests bobbing in the harbor's cold waves. Word had spread through Boston during the night faster than today's TV newsflash! The nearest citizens manned boats and beat the chests with their oars until the salt water rendered the tea useless. The act of those 200 patriots was the critical mass that began the inevitable. Some would call it sedition, some patriotism. Some treason, some heroism.

In the chain of events the crescendo built until Patrick Henry passionately declared, “Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”

The die was cast, the course irrevocably decreed and the rest is history, so to speak. And now we come to a time to look inside ourselves and be grateful for what we have and what we represent.

I look back and wonder who I might have been, one of the 7,000; one of the 200; maybe a sailer on the tea ship? Being a resident Yankee I think I should have been one of the Patriots, but I wonder how courageous I could have been, how dedicated to that cause.

All I know is that I've been an Entrepreneur all of my life and I could not live under the tyranny the colonists lived under. Many thought it was 'Just fine, we are safe with the British soldiers to protect us.' Many thought there was no tyranny, just security that the soldiers brought and the taxes were but a small price to pay for it.

Who knows. Maybe they were right. But for me? I dunno, I think I have to side with Patrick Henry and good ole Ben Franklin. Ben had some interesting ideas on those thoughts...and he wasn't even sure about the Constitution! But for all of its flaws and inadequacies, it was a miracle that a group could agree on THAT much! Ben said that if those colonists gave up their liberties for safety they would ultimately lose both.

Independence? Great concept.
Hmmm, maybe I should start drinking tea.

Rescession? ... Why The Next President Is So Important

When we look back at the effect that presidents have had on the economy we scratch our heads and wonder. Has the economy effected the presidents?  Have the presidents effected the economy?

With nearly every other article addressing a looming recession,(oops, already here?), a continuing downward trend in the housing market, the Dow Jones, the NASDAQ, the soaring Gold, the jobless rate...the bad news rants on!  It would be no shock to find us all in a huge recession, if we believed the news! 

The Chairman of the Federal Reserve has egg all over his face with his manipulation of the interest rates and their complete non-effect on the economy.  I still maintain that the ONLY way that a recession can be avoided is through the efforts of the Entrepreneurs, the individuals, not government.

With the omnipresent threat of recession as thick as storm laden clouds hanging overhead it behooves us to ask the question, "What effect will the next president have on the economy?" 
It looks like we have a choice of Obama with Biden or McCain with Palin, as the Commander in Chief to be the Third part of the "Checks and Balances" of our perfect system. 

What should we expect of the next president?  What talent should that stellar leader bring?  Should that person be conversant in the manipulation of the Fed's role in the M1, M2 and M3, their relationship to interest rates and their respective relationship to borrowing?  Should they be well versed in Harvard Economics 850?

Without taking sides, I have said for years now, what I felt was truly necessary.  I was thrilled when a great Harvard professor (former Senator), at the Kennedy School of Government agreed with me last month, (I love it when someone agrees with me).  A Time magazine correspondent asked him, "What do you think are the greatest attributes that a candidate can bring to the table in this economy?"

The Professor responded solemnly, "The ability to instill confidence in the American people." 
...and so much economic theory!

So who is it that instills confidence in you, for America is made up of a whole lot of "you's?"

The Entrepreneur is an individual who takes responsibility (accountability) for the outcome of her venture.  That is a rare character, one who is the cornerstone of our freedom, the basis of our ethos.

That's how I see it.

Power of the Individual... the essence of the Entrepreneur

We spend billions of dollars a year trying to establish “democracy” throughout the world, whether they like it or not! If a country is not democratic, it is the enemy!

IF that is the case then we must be an enemy to ourselves!! We stand, place our hands over our hearts and solemnely pledge: “I pledge allegence to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic, for which it stands, One.....” Have you ever snapped yourself conscious and listened to what we are reciting? I did, and I was agast!

The United States of America was never intended to be a democracy! Whoa...Controversy! Let me restate that in case you thought I have lost my rocker: “The United States of America was never intended to be a democracy!” Don't worry, this is a historical fact and not a political one. The USA is founded on the principles of a Republic. A republic is based on individual liberties, individual action. Democracy is simply the vote of the majority, much like the crowd that turned on Socrates while Plato watched, agast; much like the crowd that turned on Jesus as his few friends watched, agast. It's been said that when God wanted to make a horse he appointed a committee. He got a camel! It is the individual that is the source of freedom, the source of power that moves markets.

Adam Smith also perceived the real source of the 'Wealth of Nations': “...have the courage to leave the design and construction of freedom to the invisible hand.”

Who controls that hand? You, I, and each Entrepreneur who seeks to profit by producing things that others desire, rather than live on the spoils of political victory. Through the success of Entrepreneurs we push forward freedom and become examples to others, thereby building a foundation for a better world. Credit Card Fraud and the Market

The market flows to satisfy a need, or scratch an itch! This year over $57 Billion US Dollars will be defrauded from just one segment of the credit/debit card market, the "skimming," or the copying segment.

The crooks see a "need" to grab your credit card number, make copies of it and sell it over the Internet to 1,000 people on a "wholesale" basis for $1.00 per number! It's over and done with and the first series of charges this month are completed to just under $2,000! (Why? cuz, over $2,000 the feds get involved).

HOW CAN THEY POSSIBLY DO THAT?? Answer: Because there is a market for it and the crooks know how to tap that market!

Wherein lies the opportunity for the Entrepreneur? Possibly at least two areas:

1. Either become a professional thief and start tapping the market; or

2. Find a way to stop the thieves and capitalize on it.

We're not going to stop the fraud by jailing all the thieves, because the market remains unchanged, (more thieves fill in the voids). To capitalize on a solution we have to change the entire market and take a small percentage for stopping the hemorrhage!
That means that if you came up with a product that changed the entire market, thus eliminating, (not reducing...eliminating!) credit/debit (copy) card fraud of $57,000,000,000 per year and just received a mere 3% fee, (or who is kidding me, any fee!), would your product be valid?

You've got to be kidding! Let me rephrase that. Your product would totally eliminate copy fraud for all credit and debit cards in the world. In the USA alone that would be over $57 Billion per year that you would be saving the consumer. (Oh, the "banks cover that?" Not on your life...ultimately we do!). Our costs go down, taxes to recover that loss go down, and instead of bleeding $57,000,000,000 per year out the door to thugs, the banking industry would save ALL THAT and pay you, say, 1%.

Whaddya think? Would you have the world by the tail? Would the banks, Visa International, MasterCard, etc. be lining up to get your product for only 1% of what they now "pay?"
Fascinating: The thugs have a "need" to rip huge bucks out of you and me. WE provide the solution (money) for the thugs to "fill that need." It's all in the market! It seems that all I have to do is create a traffic director that stops the money from going to the thugs and redirects it back to us!!

What?? Am I nuts?? Well, I've been talking to this research technology company in San Francisco, and.....

Entrepreneurs, More Powerful Than Politics?

Lay the groundwork. Put in the time. Grease the wheels. Hilary Clinton did it all and does it now complete with facial expressions. She has molded the expression of disgust into an art form, as seen so eloquently at the last two State of the Union addresses. She put in the time and talent with high school, including everything academic/sports in Chicago and on to Wesseley College where she excelled.

She says Yale Law School was a choice over Harvard because of a crass Harvard Prof., but, hey, what can I say? She put in the time and again excelled. She hooked up with Bill and later trucked on down to Arkansas. She evidently played a few hands at being an entrepreneur, and some wanted to “whitewash” the escapades...but Nixon paranoia, it was not!

“First Lady of Arkansas,” and then moved to Washington, D.C. to be “First Lady” for 8 years! Head strong and controversial, she did gain experience, and in every way!

And how about moving to New York? Representing New York as a brand new citizen?? Don't ya just love it? She reportedly spearheaded over $2.3 Billion (that's with a “B”) into private development in New York and received enormous contributions to her election campaign...all disclosed and legal, of course.

What in the world does this have to do with Entrepreneurs? Well, at www.doppelit.com we foster the spirit of the Entrepreneur, the individual effort that has made this country so great. The point is, look at how much good old Hillary has put into the groundwork and planning for this presidential campaign. It is virtually unmatched in world politics!

Whether Hillary has a moral compass or not is up to you to decide. But her competence within “the system” is demonstrated.

Along comes a competitor in the Democratic race, Barack Obama, a relatively inexperienced politician that speaks well, represents hope and was trailing Mrs. Clinton's formidible machine by at least 20 points!

And then, AND THEN steps in the Entrepreneur, Oprah Winphrey, who makes a rational choice (from her perspective), and endorses Obama.

Immediately stadiums full of people turn out to hear Obama, (in reality to see Oprah), and because of one person's influence, Obama closes the gap!
